Gateway to the Western Conference

Gateway to the Western Conference

USL announced Wednesday the conference alignment and playoff format for 2016 with the addition of six new teams.  With these additions, Saint Louis FC will be moving from the Eastern to the Western Conference.

“Saint Louis FC is excited about its move to the Western Conference.  This move allows us to build on the momentum of last season.” explained General Manager Jeremy Alumbaugh.  “We anticipate this move will give us the opportunity to create more rivalries similar to what was created between us and Louisville City last season, which is something our fans and supporters will love.”

With the full schedule slated to be released next week, the club is optimistic it will continue playing for the Kings Cup and anticipates some Eastern Conference opponents will remain on the schedule.  An increased number of geographical rivals is possible with the addition of the Swope Park Rangers, Sporting Kansas City’s affiliate, and the opportunity for fans and supporters to attend more away matches with neighboring Oklahoma housing the Tulsa Roughnecks and Oklahoma City Energy.

Alumbaugh concluded “With the expansion occurring both in 2016 and the announced Reno franchise in 2017, it's exciting to be a part of the USL's continued growth, while hopefully maintaining our rivalry with our friends down I-64.”

In four games against Western Conference opponents last year, STLFC produced two wins, one loss and one draw.
