St. Louis, MO - Saint Louis FC has come to terms with midfielder Ivan Mirkovic and goalkeeper Devala Gorrick, pending USL and the United States Soccer Federation approval.
A finalist for the 2016 USL Goalkeeper of the Year, Saint Louis FC have signed Devala Gorrick for the 2017 season pending USL and USSF approval. This past season, the League voted him to a spot on the Second Team All-League Team and the fans voted his save on Kyle Greig of the Vancouver Whitecaps the "Save of the USL Playoffs." In 2016 he played in 2541 minutes including one playoff game. He finished the season with 25 goals against, 85 saves, and a GAA of 0.89 for the Switchbacks. Gorrick spent one season with the Ottawa Fury in 2014, before moving to the Colorado Springs Switchbacks, where he made 48 appearances between the 2015 and 2016 seasons.
Saint Louis FC General Manager Jeremy Alumbaugh looks forward to the confidence his new goalkeeper will bring to the club, "Devala is an experienced goalkeeper in USL. He has played a majority of the minutes the past two seasons while garnering several honors. He's the consistent presence that every player likes to know is behind them in goal. He has a history of winning in USL."
Previously, Ivan Mirkovic spent 2016 with the Orange County Blues where he played 25 regular season games and two playoff games during the 2016 campaign. Before becoming a professional, Mirkovic spent two years at both California universities, Oxnard College and Fresno Pacific University. In 2013, Mirkovic earned Pac West Defender of the Year and selected to the All-Pac West Conference First Team and NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) All-West Region team. He spent his first two professional seasons with the Sacramento Republic and won the USL Championship under Head Coach Preki in 2014.
Alumbaugh knows determination breeds success, "Ivan is a player that teams do not enjoy playing against. He is a fierce competitor that competes every minute he is on the field. He was instrumental in the success that OC Blues had this season in making the Playoffs and in Sacramento winning a Championship in 2014. Fans and supporters in St. Louis can expect a hard-working central midfielder that will be an anchor in the midfield, both defensively and in possession for us."
Saint Louis FC will begin their third season at the World Wide Technology Soccer Park in the Spring of 2017. For more information, call the Marco Box Office at 636-680-0997 or go to SaintLouisFC.com
