Saint Louis, MO – Saint Louis FC has announced an extension of Irvin Herrera’s contract and the subsequent loaning of the forward to the New York Cosmos of the North American Soccer League (NASL) for the 2017 season, pending USL and U.S. Soccer Federation approval. Herrera’s contract includes an option for the 2018 season. In 2017, Herrera will join the Cosmos as well as competing for his home country El Salvador in the Gold Cup.
The loan includes cash considerations for the 2017 season and creates roster flexibility as Saint Louis FC continues to build its team for the upcoming season.
“This opportunity allows us the roster flexibility to continue and build towards our goals here in the 2017 USL season,” said STLFC General Manager, Jeremy Alumbaugh. “The direction of the team is starting to take shape and this move will allow us to continue in that direction. We wish Irvin good health and luck with the Cosmos and in the Gold Cup with El Salvador this summer."
Herrera joined Saint Louis FC in 2016 and went on to score 14 goals in 26 appearances. He has also made 13 appearances and scored 2 goals for El Salvador as they look to qualify for the 2018 World Cup.
