ST. LOUIS, Mo – Saint Louis Football Club settled for a 1-1 draw against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds in STL FC's inaugural home opener Saturday night at World Wide Technology Soccer Park.
With the draw, STL FC moves to 1-1-1 on the season. The club will play four of its next five league games at home.
After creating a number of quality scoring chance in the first half, STL FC took the lead just before halftime in the 43rd minute. Patrick Doody swung in a dangerous ball off a corner kick, and midfielder Brandon Barklage took advantage of a miscue by Pittsburgh goalkeeper Ryan Thompson to volley into the net from five yards.
Pittsburgh responded in the second half, however, as Vinnie Dantas equalized in the 72nd minute to salvage a point for the visitors.
Saint Louis FC outshot Pittsburgh by a margin of 15-7, including a 8-1 mark in the first half.
Goalkeeper Mark Pais registered three saves in his home debut.
STL FC will be back in action on April 18 against the Rochester Rhinos at the Soccer Park. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30pm CT.
