Saint Louis FC U23 Technical Staff Set

ST. LOUIS - The coaching staff for Saint Louis FC U23 was announced today.  Kevin Stoll will assume the duties of head coach while Andrew Bordelon will serve as associate head coach with Jack Mathis and Tim Kelly as an assistant coach and goalkeeping coach respectively.

"In a short amount of time we have been able to put together a quality staff that will not only allow us to be competitive on the field, but also continue to develop players during the summer months." explained Saint Louis FC General Manager Jeremy Alumbaugh.  "I am excited to see the leadership that this staff will bring to Saint Louis FC U23 both on and off the field."

Stoll, the head coach for the boys Development Academy for St. Louis Scott Gallagher Illinois, is excited about the new opportunity to lead the PDL team.  Stoll said this was an opportunity too good to pass up and was thankful for the management team and club directors who have the belief in him to coach this team while crediting the club's shield values for setting the culture and structure within the organization.

"I think it's important going forward that we give guys an opportunity to come back and play for the club." said Stoll.  "A lot of guys on the roster will have played for the club growing up so this is a great opportunity for us to continue helping with their development while they're in college."

Andrew Bordelon played four years at Drury University in Springfield, Missouri and tacked on three more years to coach his alma mater once his playing eligibility expired.  Following Drury, he became the head coach at Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri.  More recently, he coaches club soccer with Sporting Columbia and was the head coach for the Springfield Synergy during the 2015 season.

Bordelon said he was excited to have the opportunity to work with a club like Saint Louis FC.  "It's great being involved with Jeremy [Alumbaugh], Kevin [Stoll], and Pat [Barry]." said Bordelon.  "I'm expecting us to have a very talented squad.  We were able to pick up some outstanding players with the transition over here."

Jack Mathis, who had already agreed to coach with Bordelon in Springfield before Saint Louis FC acquired the club, returns to Soccer Park where he trained and played with Saint Louis FC for part of the 2015 season.

"It's great to be back in St. Louis and a part of this organization." said Mathis. "I'm excited to get into coaching and hoping to make this my profession down the road."

Tim Kelly has played as goalkeeper professionally with the Arizona Sahuaros and the Kansas City Wizards of MLS.  He has coached the goalkeepers at St. Louis Scott Gallagher for over a decade and also serves as the goalkeeper coach for Saint Louis University men's and women's soccer teams.

Kelly said when he has the opportunity to coach players for only a couple of months, like he will have with the PDL team, he will address any major flaws in technique but his responsibility is to maintain the players' current playing level.

"I think my job is to help them get better at the things they feel they need to get better at and if there's anything I see that I think I can help them with individually, I will." said Kelly.  "For the most part, I think it's just maintaining them and continuing to build off what their individual goalkeeping coaches have instilled in them already."

The 2016 season kicks off for Saint Louis FC U23 kicks off May 24 at Cooper Stadium in Springfield, Missouri against the Oklahoma City Energy U23 at 5:00 pm cst.
