St. Louis Soccer fans set a new STLFC attendance record as 6,004 packed the park for the regular season home finale against Louisville City FC. The previous record was 5,663 from the home finale in 2015, also against Louisville City FC.
Both teams saw multiple chances in the first half, Louisville having two big chances early on. Mark Pais came up big in the first half to keep the game even at 0-0. The lone STLFC goal came from Jordan Roberts, assisted by Irvin Herrera in the 17th minute. A red card for James Musa in the 35th forced STLFC to play with 10 men for the remainder of the match. In the 37th minute, Pais came up big time with a double save to keep the match lead for Saint Louis. Louisville FC came back a minute later with a goal and then things got worse after a penalty was called against Saint Louis which Louisville made no mistake by burying the penalty from the spot.
In the second half, Louisville City opened with a goal 10 minutes in to make it 3-1 and then again 56th minutes. The second half also brought multiple scoring chances for STLFC but no one able to put the ball past the keeper. The final goal of the game came in the 79th minute to solidify the win for Louisville FC.
"It was a good first 15 minutes, I thought the team played hard, really had the center of the field solidified after the first fifteen minutes, and things changed after the red card." Tim Leonard said after the loss.
Irvin Herrera, who the St. Louligans player of the year said, "It's been a great season; the support has always been there. They have been there with us through the good times and the bad times. It's unbelievable how much they love this club."
The club will close out the 2016 season on the road as they will face OKC FC at Taft Stadium. The last 3 meetings between the two teams have all ended up in draws.
